For me, I get more than just the time we&rsquo;re at the destination.&nbsp; I love the process of planning the vacation.&nbsp; I love finding good deals, figuring out the most fun way to spend our days, and, of course, scouting out great places to eat.&nbsp; Then after the vacation, I love looking back on all the fun memories and scrapbooking from some of the pictures we take.&nbsp; But I also recognize the indirect benefits from a vacation.&nbsp; One example is providing an escape.&nbsp; In early 2019, I was struggling with some personal things, so when Valentine&rsquo;s Day rolled around, I was on the lookout for a quick getaway for Joel and me.&nbsp; Spokane was a doable drive (9 hours, but us Montanans are used to it), had the #4 ranked basketball team in the nation, and had that team playing in a game the weekend before Valentine&rsquo;s Day.&nbsp; So we made it happen, and it was a great, necessary few day escape.<br /></div>  <div>  <!--BLOG_SUMMARY_END--></div>  <h2 class="wsite-content-title"><font color="#a82e2e">The Seats</font></h2>  <div class="paragraph">Man, Gonzaga basketball games are a hot commodity.&nbsp; One, they play in a pretty small arena.&nbsp; 6,000 seat small, in fact.&nbsp; Which was probably fine when they were a small mid-major program.&nbsp; But as they&rsquo;ve grown into the America&rsquo;s Darling Powerhouse that they are, they&rsquo;ve arguably outgrown an arena that small.&nbsp; Add in the fact that they reserve a decent portion of the tickets for students, and you&rsquo;re looking at slim pickings on the secondary market.<br /><br />Literally there were only 2 tickets available a couple of weeks before when I looked.&nbsp; At the time, I was flabbergasted at the cost, but again, felt like I needed a getaway, and it felt like a good investment.<br />&#8203;<br />While the seats weren&rsquo;t in the best part of the arena, the vibes were excellent, and we were across from the student section, which was very entertaining.&nbsp; The Bulldogs were playing St. Mary&rsquo;s, and we thought it would be a great game, since they were the second-best team in the conference.&nbsp; We were, in fact, wrong.&nbsp; They DEMOLISHED the Gaels, beating them 94-46.&nbsp; Yikes.&nbsp; But again, it made for good vibes, and we were able to knock another great arena off the list!<br /></div>  <div><div class="wsite-multicol"><div class="wsite-multicol-table-wrap" style="margin:0 -15px;"> 	<table class="wsite-multicol-table"> 		<tbody class="wsite-multicol-tbody"> 			<tr class="wsite-multicol-tr"> 				<td class="wsite-multicol-col" style="width:50%; The first was a brunch spot called The Yards.&nbsp; It was a bit of a wait, but it was worth it.&nbsp; The restaurant itself is in a fun little building with a cool old-school diner vibe.&nbsp; But the food was the real star- they have a great menu full of both sweet and savory options!<br />&#8203;<br />The second memorable spot was a dinner venue right up my alley.&nbsp; Remember my love of renovated buildings?&nbsp; Well Spokane has an old steam plant that has since been taken over and transformed into a restaurant.&nbsp; They kept a lot of the internals, and it was a really cool experience with great food to boot.&nbsp; I highly recommend to anyone going to Spokane.<br /></div>  <h2 class="wsite-content-title"><font color="#a82e2e">Other Deets</font></h2>  <div class="paragraph">We stayed at the Davenport Hotel, which was our other somewhat splurge of the weekend.&nbsp; The rooms were great, and they also had a fun hotel bar, which we enjoyed both the night we got in as well as after the Zags game.<br />&#8203;<br />As far as parking for the game, it was a bit of a pain, but we just parked a little ways away and made the trek before and after.&nbsp; And speaking of after, one of my friends from college (who lives in southern California) was randomly in Spokane that same evening for work!&nbsp; We were able to connect with her for a little bit, which was an amazing surprise.&nbsp; The next morning we started the long drive home, but we did it feeling full of great memories&hellip; and with our phones full of some great photos.&nbsp; I can get into a pattern of trying to plan each vacation to top the last, so this weekend was a great reminder that a vacation does not need to be long or have a ton of events to be worthwhile.<br /></div>  <div><div class="wsite-multicol"><div class="wsite-multicol-table-wrap" style="margin:0 -15px;"> 	<table class="wsite-multicol-table"> 		<tbody class="wsite-multicol-tbody"> 			<tr class="wsite-multicol-tr"> 				<td class="wsite-multicol-col" style="width:50%; As a Red Sox fan, we&rsquo;ve been spoiled this century with an amazing run of championships, but those interviews have stuck in my brain to remind me that you never know when the last World Series you see your team win is going to occur.&nbsp; With that attitude, I told Joel in 2018 that if the Red Sox made it to the World Series, we needed to do whatever it took to go to a game.&nbsp; Which at the time was no small feat- I was coaching volleyball, so I had a pretty limited time frame that it would work.&nbsp; Thankfully, the stars aligned and game 5 fell on a Sunday and in Los Angeles, which was a much easier trek for us from Montana.&nbsp;<br />&#8203;<br />One problem though- the Red Sox were a juggernaut, and we weren&rsquo;t even sure that it was going to make it to game 5.&nbsp; We held off on booking a flight until we knew the game was actually going to happen.&nbsp; Red Sox won the first two games, and then came game 3.&nbsp; With conflicting feelings, we watching all 18 innings, and breathed a sigh of guilty joy when the Red Sox ultimately lost despite Nate Eovoldi&rsquo;s mammoth effort.&nbsp; Immediately after the loss, we booked our flight to leave early Sunday morning and return not even 24 hours later and tried to wrap our heads around getting to see our favorite team play on the biggest stage!<br /></div>  <div>  <!--BLOG_SUMMARY_END--></div>  <h2 class="wsite-content-title"><font color="#5cbce0">The Seats</font></h2>  <div><div class="wsite-multicol"><div class="wsite-multicol-table-wrap" style="margin:0 -15px;"> 	<table class="wsite-multicol-table"> 		<tbody class="wsite-multicol-tbody"> 			<tr class="wsite-multicol-tr"> 				<td class="wsite-multicol-col" style="width:50%; padding:0 15px;"> 					 						  <div class="paragraph">I am an obsessive planner.&nbsp; Up until this point in my life, I had always wanted to know as early as possible the plans- where we&rsquo;d be sitting, where we&rsquo;d be eating, etc.&nbsp; There was little room for spontaneity, much to Joel&rsquo;s chagrin.&nbsp; And while I still love to plan, the trip was a turning point for me from obsessing about booking things as early as possible to getting the best deal possible, even if it meant waiting at times.&nbsp; This is because if we&rsquo;d bought our tickets when the Red Sox first made the World Series, or even when we booked our flight, we would have paid more than we ultimately did for far worse seats.&nbsp; I mean it literally that we paid what I would have for nose bleeds if I would have insisted on paying when the World Series matchup was first set.&nbsp; It makes sense- for major sporting events like that, all the face value tickets from the team get snatched up right away.&nbsp; Especially in the playoffs, teams want to treat their committed fans and season ticket holders well, so they have ticket presales that most of the general public can&rsquo;t get on, so it&rsquo;s nearly impossible to get the tickets at face value.&nbsp; Then, people who bought those face value tickets and want to make money on them (or can&rsquo;t go) post them on the secondary market.&nbsp; They hope for the best at first, listing them for some crazy amount in the hopes that they get it, and then as the date grows closer, they get more desperate and drop the price.<br /><br />For us, we bought the tickets at the airport the morning we left.&nbsp; The timing was perfect- prices had dropped significantly, but by the time we landed, inventory had gotten so low that the only tickets left were the folks who had stayed overpriced the whole time (I always assume these people have the mentality that they will go to the game unless they get an offer they can&rsquo;t refuse).&nbsp; Our seats were amazing- a couple of sections up behind home plate.&nbsp; Better than I&rsquo;d even imagined that we&rsquo;d get when we were first talking about going.&nbsp; Don&rsquo;t get me wrong, we still splurged- to this day, it&rsquo;s the most we&rsquo;ve ever paid for seats, and it takes that title by a pretty significant amount.&nbsp; But again, it could be the last chance we get, and I would pay for that every time for what we got to experience.<br />&#8203;<br />For those of you who aren&rsquo;t Red Sox or MLB fans, game 5 ultimately was the close-out game.&nbsp; The had won game 4 and went up in the top of the 1st inning and never looked back.&nbsp; I was surprised when I looked at the box score and saw how long it had been 2-1, because my memory is that I was never really worried.&nbsp; The entire game felt like a party- we stood the whole game, sang along to California Love, and watched my favorite baseball game I&rsquo;ll probably ever see (Red Sox, feel free to prove that statement wrong).&nbsp; Chris Sale literally brought Manny Machado to his knees with the final out, and the celebration was on!&nbsp; We were among the last non-team related folks to leave the stadium, I think.&nbsp; We didn&rsquo;t want the night to end!<br /></div>   					 				</td>				<td class="wsite-multicol-col" style="width:50%; The food and experience was very average, but we were buzzing for the game, so it didn&rsquo;t really matter.<br />&#8203;<br />What did matter was after the game.&nbsp; How do you celebrate a World Series win in Los Angeles?&nbsp; With In-N-Out, of course!&nbsp; We Ubered to the nearest In-N-Out, where we had the most delicious fast food burgers I&rsquo;ve had in my life.&nbsp; Granted, I think the experience and drinks I had at the game may have played into this evaluation, but whatever.&nbsp; I still enjoyed it.<br /></div>  <h2 class="wsite-content-title"><font color="#5cbce0">Other Deets</font></h2>  <div class="paragraph">Initially, Joel and I had planned on not getting a hotel and just staying out celebrating all night since our flight left so early the following morning.&nbsp; Thankfully, our friend Riley, who joined us on the trip, talked us into getting a hotel room, which I am eternally grateful for.&nbsp; We would not have made it, and even though we only got a few hours of sleep, they were fully necessary.<br /><br />Joel and I are ballpark nerds, so we always go to games early when we have a chance, but if you find yourself in a position to go to a World Series game, I recommend getting in right when the gates open.&nbsp; There are things around to go see, and I know those tickets aren&rsquo;t cheap, so take in as much as you can!&nbsp; We got some photo ops, some free giveaways, a couple of drinks, and took in BP from the outfield bleachers.<br />&#8203;<br />Overall, I can&rsquo;t say enough about the whole experience at Dodger Stadium.&nbsp; Would it have been the same if the Red Sox had lost?&nbsp; I guess we&rsquo;ll never know.<br /></div>  <div><div style="height: 20px; overflow: hidden;"></div> 				<div id='702926255707290152-gallery' class='imageGallery' style='line-height: 0px; And I&rsquo;m so glad we did!&nbsp; Not that I&rsquo;ve ever regretted going on a trip, but this one was truly special, and the Red Sox-Nationals series was a big part of that.<br /><br />The Red Sox were in town for a 3-game set as part of the inter-league games.&nbsp; For those who follow baseball in 2022, you might know that they&rsquo;re changing the schedule next year so that there will be more inter-league games.&nbsp; On one hand, I&rsquo;m excited.&nbsp; There were some instances where the Red Sox would only play at a stadium once every 6 years, so to get to see the Red Sox play at every stadium, which is my pie in the sky goal, you&rsquo;d have to be pretty patient.&nbsp; On the other hand, though, that made it special, which this new schedule will get rid of a bit.&nbsp; But at least I&rsquo;ll remember how special this series felt, which adds to the memory!<br />&#8203;<br />And while we had only planned on going to the Red Sox games, we had a few extra days in town and ended up finding an excuse to go to a couple of other games as well!</div>  <div>  <!--BLOG_SUMMARY_END--></div>  <div><div style="height:20px;overflow:hidden"></div> <div id='799487379152330878-slideshow'></div> <div style="height:20px;overflow:hidden"></div></div>  <h2 class="wsite-content-title"><font color="#db2c3b">The Seats</font></h2>  <div><div class="wsite-multicol"><div class="wsite-multicol-table-wrap" style="margin:0 -15px;"> 	<table class="wsite-multicol-table"> 		<tbody class="wsite-multicol-tbody"> 			<tr class="wsite-multicol-tr"> 				<td class="wsite-multicol-col" style="width:50%; We of course signed up and got to meet some great like-minded Red Sox fans and have a luncheon with Brock Holt, who is my favorite underdog/under-appreciated Red Sox of all time.&nbsp; Did you know he&rsquo;s the only player in the history of MLB to hit for the cycle in a playoff game?&nbsp; Now you do.&nbsp; We also got a field tour with the package, which was great.&nbsp; Some may describe the stadium as boring, but once you learn that they designed it with the intent of it looking like a monument, I think you gain some appreciation.<br /></div>   					 				</td>			</tr> 		</tbody> 	</table> </div></div></div>  <div><div class="wsite-multicol"><div class="wsite-multicol-table-wrap" style="margin:0 -15px;"> 	<table class="wsite-multicol-table"> 		<tbody class="wsite-multicol-tbody"> 			<tr class="wsite-multicol-tr"> 				<td class="wsite-multicol-col" style="width:50%; Again, 2022 baseball fans, remember a time when the NL required pitchers to hit?&nbsp; I hated that rule, and thankfully I never really had to deal with it too much being an AL team fan, but despite my dislike of the rule, I have to admit that there are few things more exciting than a dude who has no business hitting in a major league game running into a big hit.<br /><br />Lowlight of the first two games was getting pooped on by a bird.&nbsp; This was the 4th of July game, and the vibes were immaculate.&nbsp; Plus it helped that the Red Sox secured the sweep.<br />&#8203;<br />We had only been planning to attend those 3 games, but one day during a break between our museum exploring, we for curiosity looked at the tickets for the Nationals vs. Marlins games and saw that we could get Diamond Club tickets for $150 each.&nbsp; This shouldn&rsquo;t have been super surprising since both teams were terrible and they were midweek games, but we were still a bit shocked.&nbsp; We didn&rsquo;t think we&rsquo;d ever have the chance to get that level of seats for that cheap again (we have yet to), so we pulled the trigger.&nbsp; And then we had such a great time the first game that we decided to do it again!&nbsp; When in DC!<br /></div>   					 				</td>			</tr> 		</tbody> 	</table> </div></div></div>  <div><div class="wsite-image wsite-image-border-none " style="padding-top:10px;padding-bottom:10px;margin-left:0;margin-right:0;text-align:right"> <a> <img src="https://www.thestadiumchasers.com/uploads/7/0/1/1/70114423/dc18_orig.jpg" alt="Picture" style="width:auto;max-width:100%" /> </a> <div style="display:block;font-size:90%"></div> </div></div>  <div class="paragraph">&#8203;If you ever have the chance to get Diamond Club type seats (all-inclusive with the best views in the stadium) and can financially swing it, I highly recommend.&nbsp; I was listening to a baseball podcast (shoutout Name Redacted Podcast) the other day, and they were talking about how that for baseball more than most other sports, the best seats are unarguably the ones that get you closest to the action.&nbsp; I fully agree, and plus, have you seen pricing for stadium food and drinks?&nbsp; Have 3 beers and you&rsquo;ve basically paid for the tickets.&nbsp; Just come hungry!<br /></div>  <h2 class="wsite-content-title"><font color="#db2e3c">The Eats</font></h2>  <div class="paragraph">Obviously for the Diamond Club games, we mostly just snacked and ate at the games.&nbsp; For the other days, though, we were able to find some good spots around DC.<br /><br />I&rsquo;ll start with the worst, which was Buffalo Wild Wings.&nbsp; I&rsquo;m on an anti-chain restaurant vendetta, but I&rsquo;ll give this one a pass for a few reasons:<ol><li>They looked to be building up the neighborhood around the stadium, but there was still a ways to go when we were there, so options were pretty limited.</li><li>The World Cup was going on and the place was packed with rabid soccer fans, so the environment was really cool.</li><li>It&rsquo;s Joel&rsquo;s favorite spot, and he puts up with all my bougie restaurants that I like to go to.</li></ol> <br />After one of the games, we walked to a spot called Ice Cream Jubilee.&nbsp; The walk wasn&rsquo;t too bad, and the ice cream is definitely worth it.&nbsp; It&rsquo;s hard to go wrong with ice cream, and it seems like every city has at least a couple spots that experiment with unusual flavors, but this place is one of the better spots I&rsquo;ve tried.<br /></div>  <div class="paragraph"><span>For the 4th of July, I wanted to find a spot where we could watch the fireworks, and my research led me to the rooftop restaurant at the Rosewood Hotel in Georgetown.&nbsp; Georgetown is a cool little area, and the restaurant offered a family style feast for everyone.&nbsp; It was a bit of a splurge, but worth it for us at the time.&nbsp; I just looked online and saw that they are now charging $365, which is significantly more than what I paid and probably overpriced if it&rsquo;s the same experience we had, but that isn&rsquo;t to say we didn&rsquo;t have a great time!&nbsp; I just would have much loftier expectations paying that much.</span><br /></div>  <div><div style="height: 20px; overflow: hidden;"></div> 				<div id='830825325874818829-gallery' class='imageGallery' style='line-height: 0px; But first, I try to always include a note about parking.&nbsp; Unfortunately, we took public transportation to get to the games, so I can&rsquo;t really speak to the parking situation, but can speak to public transit being good and easy to use.<br /><br />We stayed in Northeast DC, which was fine, and public transportation was easy to get to from our Airbnb.&nbsp; The Airbnb owner accused us of breaking his vacuum, which I hadn&rsquo;t even seen and certainly hadn&rsquo;t used, so that part was less than ideal.&nbsp; I have in the past year moved away from Airbnb&rsquo;s, and looking back at my experiences, it&rsquo;s somewhat surprising I held on as long as I did.&nbsp; I&rsquo;m just a sucker for saving money, but it&rsquo;s not even like it&rsquo;s that much cheaper anymore and I&rsquo;ve had a lot of sketchy situations.&nbsp; But alas, I digress.<br /><br />I had never been to DC before, since they started the 8th grade visit thing a year or two after I had already passed through middle school.&nbsp; We did as many museums as possible, but the one I remember most was the Holocaust Museum.&nbsp; Seeing people acting like fools the past few years, a visit there should be a requirement for being a US citizen.&nbsp; We also did a couple of memorial tours, and the best one was a segway tour!&nbsp; They are actually pretty easy to navigate once you get a hang of it, and it was a great way to get around the city in both a fun and efficient way.<br /><br />I already mentioned Hamilton, but that was another highlight for me.&nbsp; I LOVE musicals.&nbsp; I have a weird number of musical soundtracks in my Apple Music library, and The Sound of Music and Moulin Rouge are both in my top 5 movies of all time.&nbsp; Joel is&hellip; less of a fan.&nbsp; He was a good sport when we were in New York though and went to Wicked with us, and I think he genuinely enjoyed Hamilton.&nbsp; There&rsquo;s a reason it took Broadway by storm and seeing it in the nation&rsquo;s capital was icing on the cake.<br />&#8203;<br />Nationals Park won&rsquo;t make it on any lists for the top ballparks in the country, but I appreciated what it has to offer.&nbsp; Like the Orioles, I want to see the Nationals be good and DC to become a baseball town in the summer, but they seem pretty far away from that these days. &nbsp;At least their City Connect jerseys are cool.&nbsp; Overall, we came away from DC with great memories and a Bryce Harper bobblehead.&nbsp; What more could you ask for?<br /></div>  <div><div class="wsite-multicol"><div class="wsite-multicol-table-wrap" style="margin:0 -15px;"> 	<table class="wsite-multicol-table"> 		<tbody class="wsite-multicol-tbody"> 			<tr class="wsite-multicol-tr"> 				<td class="wsite-multicol-col" style="width:50%;
